2011 - The Year of Online Spending

Posted on October 14th, 2011 by High Ranking Websites

Figures collated by the Internet Advertising Bureau - the trade body for digital advertsing - have found that UK internet adverising expenditure has increased by a whopping 13.5% in the first half of 2011, resulting in increased online spending. This justifies the importance of investing in e-commerce - through a Facebook shop, for example. After all, the report also found that social media sites, such as Facebook, account for a huge 25% of time spent online in the whole of the UK. A Facebook shop has never made more business sense!

The chief executive of the Internet Advertising Bureau, Guy Phillipson, stated that:

"The spectacular growth of video and social media powering brand display is key to online achieving a record share of 27% (of market spend)".

Google+ - Your Questions Answered...

Posted on October 3rd, 2011 by High Ranking Websites

Here at High Ranking Websites, we know that, when it comes to keeping up with the latest online trends, things can get a little overwhelming. Ian from High Ranking Websites is here to answer your questions about Google+, the new social networking tool from Google...

So, what is Google+ ??

At its core, Google+ is a social network. The first thing users are introduced to is the Stream. It’s much like the Facebook News Feed, allowing users to share photos, videos, links or their location with friends.

Ian's Advice...

"With 750 million registered users, and still rapidly growing, we don’t see Facebook losing its dominance in the same way that MySpace fell by the wayside. High Ranking Websites does acknowledge that Google+ is going to make a big impact (and may even get to the point of rivalling Facebook in terms of registered users) although it is likely that this will take years.

The concept of a Facebook shop is still relatively new – but it is growing at a rapid rate, unlikely to slow down any time soon. Many Facebook users are yet to discover Facebook shopping, or Facebook Commerce, as it’s widely known, and it is expected that it will surpass Amazon for retail sales by 2015. So, investing in a Facebook shop now means the time is right for a retailer to cash in on the oncoming surge of shoppers. Google+ is currently only available for private individuals, and what High Ranking Websites does know is that Google will launch its Business Page at some stage in the future, as they are currently developing that side of their platform. What we can be sure of is that Google+ Commerce will come at some point in the future, although there are no exact dates on the horizon.

The Facebook shop from High Ranking Websites is built around a ‘canvas page’ - which sits externally from Facebook - and the design and functionality is mirrored on to a Facebook page. From what we currently know, Google+ also intends on using canvas pages when development is complete. This suggests that our Facebook shop platform will also function well on Google+, leaving customers safe in the knowledge that their purchase of a Facebook shop is future-proof. When Google+ catches up, we expect most leading online retailers to have both a Facebook shop and a Google+ store to ensure that they don’t miss out on any sales opportunities."
